The owner of the Frankie & Benny’s restaurant chain has announced plans to close 125 stores immediately.

The Restaurant Group, who is also behind Wagamama, claims COVID-19 has forced the company to restructure meaning it will close some unprofitable restaurants.

It is rumoured that at least one of the Nottingham restaurants will close its doors to customers – but none of the locations have been officially announced.

In Nottingham, the chain has locations in Upper Parliament Street in the city centre, Redfield Road, Victoria Retail Park, Netherfield, Giltbrook Retail Park, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mansfield.

Andy Hornby, chief executive said: “The issues facing our sector are well documented and we have already taken decisive action to improve our liquidity, reduce our cost base and downsize our operations.

“The proposed CVA will deliver an appropriately-sized estate for our Leisure business to ensure we are well-positioned despite the very challenging market conditions facing the casual dining sector.

“I would like to wholeheartedly thank all of my TRG colleagues for their continued understanding and extraordinary commitment during this unprecedented period.”

Earlier this year Chiquito, also owned by the Restaurant Group, went into administration.
