Ashfield District Council (ADC) is currently considering plans to more than double car parking charges.
Under the plans, the two-hour parking fee will rise to £2.00 and the daily parking charge will rise from £1.50 per day to £4.00 per day.
The first hour of parking is to remain free.
The proposed changes will be implemented from 18 May 2020 and would raise an estimated additional £250,000 for the council.
Residents and local business owners have taken to social media are objecting to the increase citing further reduced footfall on already “desolate” highstreets.
Local Labour Councillors have also raised concerns over the increase proposed by the Independent controlled council.
Ashfield residents have until March 9 to take part in the consultation.
